I feel giant joy to be able to introduce you to the rad Pam Grout and her radiant work! You might have come across a couple of her other books with the cool Einstein-esque covers, the #1 New York Times bestseller E-Squared and E-Cubed. The “Es” have put Pam’s carefree, respectfully irreverent voice in the heart of the personal growth world, and I’m thrilled she’s back at waking up our beautiful minds with Thank & Grow Rich: A 30-Day Experiment in Shameless Gratitude and Unabashed Joy which drops 8/30. I highly recommend you get a copy.
Forget about the genius cover design featuring a maneki-neko, the golden waving cat symbolizing good luck you see all over Japan, and pulsating holographic font that would make Napoleon Hill dance with delight, Thank & Grow Rich is a bubbling road map to real abundance, love, and peace whose time has come.
Just like the previous two handbooks, Thank & Grow Rich offers thirty days full of experiments that let you see for yourself if the universe might indeed have your back. Just imagine, just for a micro second, that there’s a divine source (or god, or universe, or infinite intelligence, or all-knowing pumpkin, or whatever word resonates with you) that’s working on your behalf. Wouldn’t that feel good?
Personally, I choose to believe that I’m here to learn and help others. To learn the lessons I need to learn which includes the belief that my good is always available to me. I simply need to tune in to the matching frequency. Gratitude and joy get you there godspeed.
“And despite what you may have heard, it’s not thinking that calls in miracles -- it’s thanking. When you’re on the frequency of gratitude and joy, the universe is free to line things up, work things out, pull rabbits out of hats,” the back of the book reads. From my own experience I know that when I’m rooted in gratitude and joy, I’m receptive to the world. I pick up on subtle cues, silent signs, whispers, and angel brushes. When I’m annoyed, tired, or frustrated, on the other hand, I’m at too low a frequency to even sense the good vibes. That keeps me stuck in a place where things look bleak, blah, and mildly depressing at best. Add to that the media tsunami of recycled bad news and you morph into the zombies you might see on your morning commute.
I can’t always be joyful (yet), and there are times when being sad is healing. We need to let the pain move through us to get it out of our system. But there’s a difference between grieving and wallowing in despair. There comes a time to climb the emotional ladder up again; gratitude is the best way I know to viscerally feel the blessings in your life. It’s why I named this blog Colors of Gratitude. Joy is the north star, the light that always gets you home. Because home is peace. Home is abundance. Home is love.
I’m grateful Pam’s taken the time to answer my Gratitude Speaks questions. Savor them. These are jewels waiting for you to adorn your consciousness with. Also be sure to sign up for Pam’s e-news, which feel like a love letter to the dazzling essence of life that is me and you and your dog and house plant, and home, and sun, and galaxies beyond our imagination... Get in on the Divine Buzz. In joy & gratitude!
1) How do you define gratitude, and what are you grateful for?
Gratitude is looking at life with unbridled astonishment, appreciating the fact that we are here on this giant ball hurtling through space (what are the odds?) to uplift and empower humanity. Gratitude is our natural state, the Divine Buzz that is our inheritance when we take the time to really revel in all we’ve been given.
2) What is art to you?
Art is the blessing that comes from our Higher Self, an innovative way of moving society forward. We are all creative and it’s so important that we use these powers to imagine a new world, rather than continue to stare at the same-ole we’ve been staring at for thousands of years. Artists imagine and create the new world that is being born. And we’re all in on the game.
3) When did you experience significant personal growth, and how did it impact your perspective on life?
Whenever a seeming-challenge appears, I know it’s time to leap into a new way of being. I know it’s time to let go of that story and move into a new story. Some of the instances from my own life are when I was fired from a job (it was time to spin my own career) and when I became a single parent. It was time to trust that the universe had my back and that I would have to grow my faith in myself.
4) What other gems of joy & wisdom would you like to share with us?
It’s so incredibly important to stay on the frequency of gratitude and joy. I feel the world right now really needs a whole team of us who can beam in a new way of being. Despite appearances, we have to defy the old story, we have to continue to believe in love, in peace and in the beauty of each one of us.
